”It’s time to put Finland on the battery map” – EnergyVaasa Talks charges up a new high-quality webinar

EnergyVaasa Talks 14-9-2021

Energy runs high in the Finnish battery industry in Ostrobothnia. An intensive high-profile webinar brings together key players to offer unique insights into what’s going on.

On Tuesday, September 14th, a positively electrifying webinar on sustainable battery solutions will be held.

”The goal is to promote Finnish battery expertise, to put Finland on the battery map,” says moderator Paula Erkkilä of the Ostrobothnia Chamber of Commerce.

The two international companies that have already signed significant letters of intent for battery investments in the Vaasa region, Johnson Matthey and FREYR Battery, are well represented.

FREYR Battery sends its chief operations officer Jan Arve Haugan while director Christian Ruediger speaks for Johnson Matthey.

More than two strong players

FREYR Battery and Johnson Matthey are not the only notable actors at Tuesday’s event. Riitta Björkenheim from VASEK promises a tightly packed program.

”Over an hour and a half, we will hear from as many battery stakeholders as possible to get many different points of view,” says Björkenheim.

Matti Hietanen, CEO of Finnish Minerals Group, will speak about building sustainable battery value chains in Finland. Finnish Minerals Group is responsible for developing the battery strategy for the whole country.

Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka will speak about the road towards carbon-neutral logistics.

Since large investments in Finland have traditionally been followed by large infrastructure packages, we recommend paying close attention to the minister’s presentation. The Vaasa region also needs such public investments in roads, ports and railways, for example.

Beyond Finland

Finland and Ostrobothnia are part of a Nordic battery belt that further stretches across parts of Sweden and Norway. Thore Sekkenes from InnoEnergy Scandinavia offers insight into the Europe-wide battery strategy.

MEP Miapetra Kumpula-Natri also contributes knowledge of both the local and European perspectives.

The webinar is opened by the Mayor of Vaasa Tomas Häyry and moderated by Paula Erkkilä, director of the Ostrobothnia Chamber of Commerce.

Already 250+ sign-ups – why you should join

The webinar is already proving popular with over 250 pre-registered participants.

”There is so much happening right now and this event is the perfect chance to update your knowledge,” says Paula Erkkilä.

Riitta Björkenheim agrees, adding that ”the webinar allows anyone interested to learn more about the state of affairs in the region as well as on the European and global levels.”

How to register

The online event, called Sustainable Battery Solutions from Finland, is held in English, and participation is free.
